Xiaomi is in no way disappointing its users. With the passing time, Xiaomi is giving every feature to its customers that they expect. But talking about Redmi Note 5 Pro (Gold, 64 GB) has been hogging attention not only from consumers but media too. Providing unmatchable new Qualcomm midrange chips etc, a pair of improved cameras and adequate RAM and storage. Coming to the prices then Note 5 Pro is one of the most suitable budget smartphones that you can currently buy in India at a price of Rs. 13,999. But at the same cost, Xiaomi sells an another highly appreciated smartphone, Redmi Mi A1 (Gold, 64 GB).
Currently, it is one of those first few smartphones to taste Android 8.0 Oreo. So, here is a review of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A1: Which one is better?
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Mi A1: Which one is better?
Are you looking for the most value-for-money budget smartphones with good build quality, excellent camera quality from Xiaomi? As Mi A1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro are worthy competitors, so let keep the phone side by side to know which is better than the other and in which department.
Xiaomi started to offer taller displays in the budget segment and this major change can be seen with Redmi Note 5 Pro which offers 18:9 5.99 inch panel. It is definitely attracting attention with narrow bezel up front. For the protection of display, an undisclosed variant of Gorilla Glass is used. On top and bottom of the rear panel, one can find plastic ends for housing the antenna. The presence of micro USB port is not perfect.
Mi A1 has a display of 5.5 inch IPS LCD panel. Moreover, at the bottom of the display, there are backlit capacitive touch navigation buttons. The thick bezel around the display does not seem attractive and pleasant especially if we talk about the light color variants. It is easy to charge it using USB Type-C Port which provides the correct alignment.
In comparison, Redmi Note 5 Pro which is a newer smartphone has a better build than Mi A1 and is more pleasing. You can also go for Mi A1 if it’s fat bezel does not embarrass you.
Xiaomi has offered Redmi Note 5 Pro with Snapdragon 636 chipset. It makes the chipset looks interesting with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It offers 12MP+5MP rear camera and 20MP selfie camera along with LED flash. But the only disappointment is Android 7.1 Nougat based on MIUI 9.
When Mi A1 came out last year, it was appreciated by the media industry. It is powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset. Those who are looking for extra memory space then I must tell you that even this phone offers the same storage 64GB but 4GB RAM. It is becoming popular among Android enthusiasts as it is running on the latest version of Android 8.0 Oreo. Moreover, it has 12MP+12 MP rear camera and 5MP selfie shooter.
Even though, both the phones have a dual camera at the back but there lies a difference. Redmi Note 5 Pro’s sensors are arranged vertically but there is a horizontal configuration in Mi A1. Both the phones having the dual camera, the secondary sensors have different roles to play in each of them. Mi A1 features telephoto lens whereas Redmi Note 5 Pro has depth sensing module. Both, Mi A1 and Redmi Note 5 Pro offers IR blasters at the top of the phone.
In terms of performance, it is hard to find which one is better as none is believed to have faults. Both of them have the equal capacity to deal with casual usage inputs like photography, playing games, streaming videos and browsing. But with big display comes bigger viewing experience so Note 5 Pro offers better dynamic range and viewing angle. The camera performance is noticeably better in Note 5 Pro as compared to Mi A1 as it distinguishes the subject from the background. But to a layman, it does not make a much difference.
Redmi Note 5 Pro uses MIUI which offers tons of customization options as well as added convenient features such as touch gestures, dual app and many more. On the other hand, Mi A1 uses UI and a number of preloaded apps which makes navigation through interface easy.
Out of all the features, this is the most important one. If the battery is your primary concern then loom nothing but Note 5 Pro with 4000 mAh battery. It is believed to be an all-rounder smartphone which delivers equally on all fronts. Mi A1 is not an all-rounder like Redmi Note 5 Pro thus it offers 3080 mAh battery.
